How Pernix’s career path is helping me to become a better professional
One of the elements that are helping me the most to grow professionally is Pernix’s career path, thanks to this I have realized many aspects that I need to be a good software developer. The following ways are how it is helping me:
- Knowledge of new skills: I had the wrong idea that to become a good programmer or a senior meant finishing the tasks as quickly as possible and being a great expert in some programming language and framework, but this is not all that is needed to to become a senior developer, there are many skills that I did not know that are essential such as seeing the Big Picture, leadership and among other skills that not only involve writing code. In this way, knowing the existence of these skills, I can focus on improving them.
2. It helped me to have clearer objectives: When I was completing the career path I had to propose concrete objectives of how I am going to improve and go to the next level. By having more specific goals every day, I made a self-evaluation of how I worked, taking into account the aspects to improve, so I can know if I am forgetting any important aspect, and do everything possible so that this does not continue to happen. You cannot become a good professional if you don’t even know how you are going to achieve it. This is not going to happen by magic.
3. The time to discuss with the career mentor is invaluable, there is nothing better than having the opinion of a professional with more experience helping me to improve, and at the same time giving me feedback on aspects that I thought I was doing well but not really, or motivating me by highlighting good qualities. Spending time with the career mentor is a time very well spent that helps me to stop focusing on finishing the project tasks, and give myself time to improve professionally, and not forget that I must always be aware of that.
