Importance of sharpening your skills

As software developers, technology advances very fast, causing programmers’ skills to become outdated. In order to avoid this, it is very important to be constantly learning and sharpening our skills outside of work. At the same time, learning new technologies and tools corresponds to a good investment in the labor market, because this may open up new opportunities.

The only way to be a good professional and excel is to spend time outside of work improving our skills. The typical 8–5 work routine is not enough to make us good software developers, only passion and sharpening of our skills will. One way to achieve this results is to set up our goals and keep our motivation high, if we don’t have motivation to continue learning, we won’t be able to make this part of our lives.

Not all skills are programming related, the other part is soft skills, and usually these skills are not given much importance,to sharp this skills is very important to have a self assessment first, to know which skills are we lacking that we can improve. After this, we can make a more concrete path with realistic methods to follow every day. It’s important to note that this self assessment should be done multiples and not only once.
